Keizershof Shetland Ponies

The Keizershof Shetland Pony stud was founded in 1937. That year the first Shetland Pony was bought as a working pony in the orchards. With the introduction of the tractor the Shetland ponies were mainly used for breeding and showing started as a display for young stock.

One of the major showing results from that time is the winning of the Overall Championship at the "Bergharen"-show in 1966 by:

Nansie van Keizershof (skewbald, 1956).

The "Bergharen"-show is one of the main regional shows in the Netherlands. The town Bergharen is located in the centre of the breeding district "Land van Maas & Waal, Rijk van Nijmegen". The last years approximately 500 Shetland Ponies are competing in different classes over 2 days in the last week of September.

Our aim is to breed coloured Shetland Ponies of 37 inches (94 cm) with good movement. At the moment there are 6 mares and 4 fillies at the stud, varying in height from 33 to 40 inches (85 to 100 cm) with various colours from piebald to palomino.
